Mise turns any recipe into a calm, step by step guide that listens, waits and keeps time for you. Designed with a small food startup, from the first sketch to launch day.

The challenge
Recipe apps are designed for browsing, not cooking. Method steps were buried under long stories, timers lived in another app, and every home cook we watched ended up scrolling with a knuckle while something quietly burned.

The approach
I cooked alongside nine home cooks in their own kitchens and noted every moment they reached for the screen. That became cooking mode: huge type readable from across the counter, voice commands for next, back and repeat, and timers pinned to the step that needs them. A prep view gathers every chopping task up front, the way a chef sets out their mise en place.

The outcome
Beta cooks finished recipes with fewer interruptions and started asking for more recipes instead of fewer steps. The prep view became the feature people mentioned first.
